The curse of the shoelace

Today was our first day cycling. Everything went perfectly except both Christine and I fell off our bikes in the first hour. Apparently neither one of us knows how to tie our shoes. First I got my shoelaces stuck in the chain. Then 15 minutes later Christine did. Though we both floated elegantly to the ground, we felt like idiots.

After tying our shoe laces tightly, we continued on. In Bordeaux we passed the palace with the mirror reflecting pool.
The suburbs of Bordeaux were not that pretty but once we left the city it was idyllic. The bike path was a rail trail and passed through an ancient forest and then through farms and vineyards.

We stopped at a 12th century abbey.

We overshot our destination by 4 kilometers and had to retrace our track to arrive in Frontenac. It was a tiny village with one Bnb and a cafe. We spent some time chatting in French with the hoistess. Or rather Christine chatted and I grunted at the appropriate intervals. Dinner in the cafe was a bottle of wine and food of some sort. I think we will sleep well after 6 hours on our bikes.
